Abstract

In the beginning of 1900s or in other terms the conflict years of The First World War people all around Europe faced a great deal of changes including gender roles. The new world is getting modern and modern and industrialization is spreading over but still the human nature wants to play his/her own ‘original’ role in the society. Men’s losing their power of doing some jobs or their being disabled during the war made women take new positions. This new identity of women seems like a victory for some but when it comes to personal relationship men are still eager to maintain their previous roles. As in other aspects of life the effect of those changes are also seen in literature. As a good example of this era’s products, D.H. Lawrence’s “Tickets, Please” is analyzed by using Reader Response Criticism throughout the paper.
