Abstract

Classical Turkish Poetry is a field in which there are problems in its being understood today due to many factors such as the language, culture, attitude toward life, economy, social life, etc. existing in the era when written. This situation brought about many approaches made by literature researchers so that the poem would be understood. One of them is imaginary approach. In this context, the reader, too, is included into the interpretation process of the text and thus it is tried to come close to the essence of the poem. Imaginary approach plays a key role in approaching to the poems that were written especially within and after the 17th century. Prior to the 17th century, the poems were fictionalized in a specific composition and their borders were clearer while the richness in a variety of poetic forms experienced especially within the 12th century broadened the semantic borders of poem. Imaginary approach may have some significant functions in discovering them. Regarded as the last of the greatest Classical Turkish Poets, Seyh Galip has the poems that might be considered the ones whose semantic borders are broader. The aim of this study is to offer an approach to gain the semantic richness in the poems and distinguish the poetic identity of Seyh Galip. In the study the background of the violent images used in Seyh Galip’s poems was examined and sought to explain with several examples.
