Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of training duration on body composition, glucose-insulin levels and endogenous amino acids of arm wrestler collegiate students. The male arm wrestler group (Research Group, RG, n= 10, age=23.5±2.7) and the sedentary group (Control Group, CG, n= 10, age= 23.1±2.6) were almost at the same ages and the similar physical properties; however sedentary group were volunteers and did not have a regular sports habitude. In the study; there were no statistical significance according to body weight, fat weight and fat free mass parameters among both of the groups (P>0.05), body mass index increased with time (P<0.001) and body fat ratio decreased (P<0.05) in the athletes after the training period. Serum insulin and glucose concentrations and insulin glucose ratio levels among the groups had no significant change (P<0.005). In RG, alanine (P<0.001) and proline (P<0.05) concentrations increased after the eight-weeks according to beginning of the training program. Endogenous amino acids levels were generally enhanced after the exercise but glutamic acid levels decreased (P<0.05). In conclusion, our data suggested that in arm wrestling sports, regular training duration is effective on body composition and endogenous amino acids thus these results are contributive to current literature. On the other hand; obtained results of this study were in normal variation limits thereby training duration had no a negative situation on the athletes.
