Abstract

Language and culture cannot be separated. In that sense Culture affects the language spoken. Although there is a close relationship between language and culture, this is ignored throughout centuries by many teaching methods and approaches. In addition the language is seen as a collection of words which are isolated and independent from the context of the language itself. As a result language learning becomes mere memorization of grammar structures and patterns and using them in artificial classroom settings. Lately, this situation has changed a lot with new teaching methods like Communicative Language teaching Method (CLT). For this method language learning cannot be seen as memorization of grammar rules since language is context bound and it is unreasonable to teach and learn a language without its context that is culture.
