Abstract

In our country, Revolution History lessons are taught in secondary school, high school and universities. The subjects of Kemalism and History of the republic of Turkey are taught by different names in the process of education system and there are debates about the encountered problems of lessons’ goal, content and method. It is possible to say that the lessons oriented criticisms are similar to each other and expectations related to lesson are presented in a similar way. The problems of this lesson are discussed in the frame of teaching history in secondary school, high school and universities within the historiography and developments in historiography. However, the context of the lesson, Atatürk’s Principles and Revolution History, enables us to use either traditional or modern teaching methods efficiently. In our country, the program of old 11th grade Revolution History of the Republic of Turkey and Kemalism lesson is applied until 2012-2013 with some changes time to time. The new program of 11th grade Revolution History of the Republic of Turkey and Kemalism lesson has started to be applied in all the high schools in our country since 2012-2013 because of some reasons such as; the old program does not meet the needs of time, there are rapid developments in education system, there are changes in educational tools with methods and techniques. In this work, the old program of Revolution History of the Republic of Turkey and Kemalism which is applied to 11th grade is compared with the program of Revolution History of the Republic of Turkey and Kemalism which is started to be applied to 11th grade in all high schools in our country in 2012-2013 by means of goal, context and method. In this research designed in qualitative research, document review is used as method of data gathering. According to the gathered information, it has been detected that the new curriculum of 11 th grade has improved compared to the old one in terms of including sub problems. However, it is possible to say that the teachers may not be able to integrate the target purposes into their classes in the new curriculum, it is not guiding enough for practice and it is not providing sufficient samples. Even if the subjects or the intensity of subjects are decreased, it is tried to provide place for all the subjects in major topics. It can also be said that in this new curriculum, the way of impressing the techniques and methods, which are recommended to be practiced in activity samples part, does not contribute to teachers in terms of helping them to implement.
