Abstract

This study set out to develop student satisfaction scale in order to measure students’ satisfaction levels toward their universities. Two separate studies were conducted for generation and application of the item pool, and selection of items and testing the scale. From four different universities (two state and two private foundation universities) 450 female and 268 male, a total of 718 students participated in the first study. The second study was carried out with 478 female and 337 male, a total of 815 students from a state and a private foundation university. In the first stage 113 items were categorized under seven subscales. After the first application, items were reduced from 113 to 100. The Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficient for the entire scale was 0.97 and its seven subscales ranged from 0.86 to 0.96. In the second application, the Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficient for the whole scale (100 items) was again 0.97 and its subscales ranged from 0.85 to 0.95. Results indicate that the scale has a stable and valid structure to measure satisfaction levels of university students.
