Abstract

Intertextuality is that a text exists in another text. In The Brothers Karamazov novel, a variety of texts attract attention. Sacred books, works of famous authors, popular literature, a newspaper report, religious texts, etc.makes a mosaic of quotes the Brothers Karamazov. Dostoyveski's innovative side is to build the intertextuality from the perspective of the character, not the from writer’s aspects. When romantic, enthusiastic heroes refers to German romantics, another character whose philosophical side is predominant is referring to philosophical texts. The intertextual relationship established by each character is as much as he knows. When The Brothers Karamazov were examined in context of intertextuality, Bahtin's concept of “dialogism” was taken as basis. This concept of Bahtin means that more than one text interacts with each other. According to Bahtin, the dialogic text answers the previous texts, as well as the texts that follow it. This concept is the basis of the concept of "intertextuality". According to Bahtin, Dostoyevsky is the only name that writes dialogic novels in real sense, even though there were another novels that close to being dialogical. The Brothers Karamazov are the most dialogical one of Dostoyveski's novels.
