Abstract

In 2017, the Ministry published new draft curricula. The new curricula are going to be implemented gradually as of the 2017-2018 year, with their launch at primary school first grade, middle school fifth grade, and at high school ninth grade. The present study aims to evaluate the draft middle school social studies course curriculum, based on social studies teachers’ views. This is a qualitative research. Structured semi-structured interview technique was used for data collection. The study group consists of 10 social studies teachers working at middle schools located in Diyarbakir province in the 2016-2017 year. The participants, to ensure the reliability of the data, they filled in the interview form prepared by the researcher. The qualitative data collected through the open-ended questions in the semi-structured interview form were analyzed by the descriptive analysis method. The majority of the participants found the draft middle school social studies course curriculum generally positive.
