TURKEY`S TRADE RELATIONSHIPS WITH MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICAN COUNTRIES IN REGARD TO FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS

Abstract

In this work, as a developing country, the affects of Turkey`s free trade agreements that has been signed with Middle East and North African countries since their first implementation (2005-2016) and their echoing in those countries` economies has been examined. Whether Turkey`s import and export numbers during the period that is called Arap Spring has been affected or not has also been examined.In the same period even though there was no official free trade agremeent with Middle East and North African countries, Turkey`s foreign trade relations with those countries is also addressed. Main results of this article can be summarized as follows: Free trade agremeents in general are in favor of the economies of the countries included. When the results of the free trade agreements that has been signed with Middle East and North African countries is analyzed, it is seen that Turkey has gain surplus on its foreign trade between the years of 2005-2016. It has been observed that the countries with whom Turkey has no free trade agreement in Middle East and North Africa has substantial ratio in Turkey`s foreign trade.
