Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of Turkish form of the Empowerment Scale (25-item short version). Rogers et al. (2010) revised long form of Empowerment Scale and developed 25-item version. In this study, Turkish form of the Empowerment Scale was applied to 242 participants including fourth grade university students (30.6%), students attending pedagogical certificate program at public university (54.3%), and employees of a public institution (15.3%). The construct validity of the scale was obtained using confirmatory factor analysis. Results suggested that fit indices for four-factor structure were more acceptable than those of five-factor structure. In reliability studies, internal consistency values were calculated for the total scale and its subscales and it is found that the scale had adequate internal consistency. It was concluded that the Empowerment Scale is a valid and reliable instrument and it can be used in different studies in the field.
