Abstract

This study aims to explain the editing in film-making based on the relation between cinema and science. A cinematographic work addresses a certain recipient. This recipient refers to the audience, in other words, a group of people perceiving the film. In this study the editing process was reviewed within the scope of “the contribution of editing to the audience perception in a motion picture.” This is because the editing process, which plays the biggest role when it comes to introducing a motion picture to the audience, is designed according to the human perception. As a result, it is a fact that the editing process is more like a requirement than a rule. This fact dictates that the basic editing principles must be followed to transfer a motion picture to its recipient a.k.a the audience in an efficient and clear manner. Because the editing principles were born after the human perception mechanism was taken into consideration.
