Abstract

The Ottoman Empire left important artifacts in arts as well as many other fi-elds. The Ottoman Empire had given an importance to the arts and artists, sin-ce its foundation. Consequently, “Ehl-i Hiref Teşkilatı” - the Association of the Ottoman Palace Artisans - was established. In this organization, many arti-sans, who fulfilled the requirements of the Ottoman Empire, were trained. There are many registers of ottoman artisans in the Ottoman Archive of the Prime Ministry and the Archive of the Topkapı Palace Museum. Apart from few exceptions, these registries were written with the siyaqat alphabet and diwani numerals, and they are important in terms of representing the structure of the Ehl-i Hiref Teşkilatı. Thanks to the registers of Ottoman artisans, we le-arn what the names of the artisans are, on which specialties they specialized, how much payment they received daily, their nationalities and hometowns. One of these registries is the Register of Ottoman Artisans No. TSMA D. 10010, of the Archive of the Topkapı Palace Museum. This register was writ-ten with the siy-aqat alphabet and diwani numerals, in the year of 1027 of the Hijri Calendar/1617-1618 of the Gregorian Calendar.
