Abstract

In 17. century; genre painting had reserved a great place throughout the entire painting tradition. when it comes to genre painting, Dutch painter Jan Steen was one of the most memorable of his time. He is the main inspiration with his ironic genre paintings for Julie Blackmon who is one of the most significant artist of 21. century. Blackmon brings the conflicts and complexity of an modern mom of three together with audience in her fancy works by means of referances that she borrows from Steen. This contribution compares and contrasts both artists in the context of manner, composition, the structure of fiction and theme and focuses on domestic and everyday life.
