SOCIAL STUDIES STUDENTS' ATTITUDES INDICATORS TOWARDS GEOGRAPHY LESSON: AN EXAMPLE OF PAMUKKALE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors affecting the attitudes towards geography course of students who educated in the Department of Social Studies Education.250 students who are studying in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year in Social Sciences Education Department in Spring semester of 2016-2017 academic year participated in this research.In this research, 5-point likertscale wasused as a measuring toolconsists of 31 questions. Variables such as “participation in geography courses and projects, subscribed journals and affiliated groups, parental occupation” were used as the determinants of attitudes on the scale.These variables are different from the variables that were used in previous research such as “gender, education status, class level, grade of success, school attended, diploma grades, number of siblings, father education status, settlement place”. The SPSS 21.0 package program was used in the evaluation of the research data and these results are expressed in the relevant sections. The study shows that “learning environment” is the last place in the development of positive attitudes of students to the geography lesson in Social Studies Education Department. This suggests that more study should be done to reorganize the classrooms. The research can provide a contribution to this field.
