Abstract

Article 187 of Turkish Civil Code does not enable married women to choose exclusively their maiden name, this provision solely regulate to have an option about keeping their maiden name after taking their husband's surname. In addition to the allegations that the above-mentioned article breaching the principle of Constitutional equality, it is determined by European Court of Human Rights that this article constitutes a contradiction with Article 8 and 14 of European Convention on Human Rights.
