Abstract

Identification of the speech anxiety levels of the music teacher candidates taking “Community Service Practices (CSP)” classes is of importance. The purpose of this study is to determine the speech anxiety levels of the music teacher candidates taking CSP classes and analyze such levels with regard to various variables. This study was conducted on the senior students of the Department of Music Teaching of Marmara University using scanning method. The “Speech Anxiety Scale (SAS)” developed by Sevim (2012) and the Personal Details Form prepared by the researcher were used in the collection of data. Parametric techniques were utilized in the analysis of the gathered data. The “Independent Group T-test” technique was used in the comparison of groups of pairs, and the “one-way variance analysis” technique was used in the comparison of groups of three or more. As the result of the study, it has been determined that the speech anxiety levels of the music teacher candidates taking CSP classes are normal. In the study where there was no significant difference in terms of gender, age, reason for selecting the music teaching profession and the educational institution previously graduated from, results showing significant differences have been observed in the general and sub-dimensions of the scale in terms of educational attainments of parents.
