Abstract

The exact date and age of Çankırı Çerkeş’s Turkish houses is unknown. However; its history is estimated to be traced back to around 19th and 20th century. Even though Çerkeş houses slightly differs from the general Turkish houses, it embodies and showcases all of the characteristic and qualities of the Turkish House. The habitants’ accounts, the material and techniques used in these buildings have all ben taken into consideration when tracing back the date and the history of the buildings. Pretty much all of the buildings have been modified and changed. The construction materials of Çerkeş buildings have been kept lightly and did not took after any bisymmetry. These buildings have been constructed with wood, mudbrick and by utilizing the Bağdadi Technique. The building projections and eaves that exist in the house carry the shading features. Generally; most houses are consisted of two storeys. ,The first floor being a mezzanine floor, is for winter use. This floor is considered the main living area. Whereas the second floor has been designed to be with a fine view and of certain luxury. This floor is been used mainly as a guest room and it is been used during the Summer. Each building has a main room. This room compared to others are much more spacious and reflects the features of the wood processing technique.
