Abstract

Neoliberalism, which takes its roots from the economic liberalism of 19th century England, became the mainstream economics since the 1980s by pervading the whole world. While the rise of neoliberal understanding was interrupted by a sequence of crises, 2008 global economic crisis became a breaking point for the dominance of neoliberal thoughts in the academic world. The purpose of this study is to shed light on the paradigm shift in macroeconomics after neoliberalism. In the study, by laying emphasis on the problematical dynamics of neoliberalism, it is aimed to demonstrate that the economic phenomena experienced after 1980 have played a significant role in shaping the paradigm after neoliberalism. In this context, it is observed that a paradigm shift, which brings the roles of state power and regulatory authority in global financial markets again into prominence, has gained momentum.
