Abstract

137 Science and technology teachers’ self evaluations about the use of instructional methods and techniques were investigated in this research study. The research was mixed-method design in which qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques were used accordingly. A questionnaire about instructional methods and techniques developed by the researchers, in-class observations related to 5 of the participants and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. Data displayed that questionnaire results were in total conflict with the interpretations of observations and interviews. This implies the conflict between theory and practice. Although in the questionnaire, most of the participants displayed their knowledge of instructional methods and techniques, observations and interviews displayed that participants had some difficulties in using instructional methods and techniques as well as alternative assessment types. Additionally, research participants indicated that they used the instructional methods if they believed the effectiveness of it. Otherwise, they did not prefer using the method.
