Abstract

Muhammed Abduh, who is a great philosopher, sociology and reformist, is accepted as one of the most important figures of the modern Islamic world. According to Abduh, one of the required changes to recover Islamic world from the bad situation is educational reform and is to integrate modern sciences into the curriculum. The real factor that makes the west superior to the east is the high level of education and science. Therefore, educational institutions must be reformed above all. In his explanatory documents he offered to Ottoman government, Abduh stated that the blind side of Muslims was lack of education and submitted an education-oriented program. In this study, Muhammed Abduh’s thoughts on education are conveyed and analyzed.
