Abstract

Since the 16th century, minstreltradition which continues its existence by being transferred from generation to generation with its own customs continues to protect its place in our culture today. One of the minstrel simple menting this tradition today is ÂşıkVedat who came to the world in Kahramanmaraş and continues his life in Mersin since the age of twelve. In the introduction part of our study, after giving a brief information about the folk poetry and the minstreltradition, ÂşıkVedat's life and the environment that prepared him to thistraditionand the dream that he saw on the way to be a minstrel of Godare told. Then, twenty poems that belong to the minstrel, which we chose within the scope of the study, were examined in terms of form and content. ÂşıkVedat, who deals with also irreligious issues of the tradition such as love, longing, abroad, problems in social life, mortality of the world, homeland love, natural beauties as well as the religious issues like love of God, prophet and Ehl-i Beyt, Kerbela affair in his poems, is one of the few minstrels who try to maintain this tradition today. Inthisstudy, it is aimed to introduce Âşık Vedat who has not been studied until now and it is aimed at contributing to the study of folk poetry.
