Abstract

In primary school, there are certain thinking skills that are aimed at furnishing the students with especially under the curriculum of the Social Studies course. In order to furnish the students with these thinking skills through movies, the preservice Social Studies teachers, who will be teaching this course in the future, should acquire these thinking skills. The philosophizing behaviors of preservice teachers are crucial throughout the teaching training process as well as in acquiring the vital thinking skills and conveying them to the students. With this respect, the purpose of this study is to evoke philosophizing behaviors of preservice Social Studies teachers through movies. Thus, the problem statement of the study is, “Can philosophizing behaviors of preservice Social Studies teachers be improved through movies?”. The research model was designed as an action research. The data collection instruments were collected by evaluating the movie analysis documents, exam papers of the related courses and interviews carried out with preservice teachers. Findings were subject to document analysis. Data collected from the interviews with preservice teachers were analyzed through the descriptive analysis method
