Abstract

When the Hurufi movement could not expand or spread in Iran, it had a chance to gain extension in Anatolia through the pioneering activities of certain poets among whom we can mention Nesimi, Refii and Ali El-Ala. This school of thought managed to penetrate its way into the court during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Fatih Mehmet II, but scholars of Sunni sect endevaoured hard to weaken its effectiveness by the means of fetvas, announcements made in accorance with religious laws. Hurufis who were isolated as if they were affected with leprosy, were to be hanged when caught. However they struggled to hide themselves and make way for their ideology by hiding among legal religious orders such as Alevi, Bektaşi and Mevlevi denominations. As numerous researchers have found out the Hurufi movement has had an obvious influence on Alevi-Bektaşi poets. The aim of our study is to determine the amount of impact of this movement on Alevi-Bektaşi poets in a concrete and clear way. The first part of it deals with the description, historical development and the fundementals on which the mentioned movement is built. Finally as the second and final section of our research we present various poems in order to prove that the Hurufi movement is quite prevalent among Alevi-Bektaşi poets.
