Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the middle school students’ attitudes towards school student council. In this research, mixed research methodology is used. The attitudes of middle school students were examined by School Student Council Attitude Scale developed by Yıldız Baklavacı and Deniz (2015). The opinions of some selected students were investigated via interview. The main findings are as follows: (1) the attitudes of middle school student have been found positively high in the total of the scale and in “democratic gain”, “usefulness” and “responsibility” sub scales whereas at average level in “gender bias”; (2) the attitudes of girls have been found more positive than of boys in general attitudes, usefulness, responsibility and gender bias sub scales; (3) the attitudes of students in higher class levels have been found more negative than students in lower ones.
