Abstract
Alev Alatlı, who has a style of her own, is a prominent writer among the late Turkish novelists. She tries to convey her social observations, theoretical discussions and intellectual concerns to readers by softening the harshness of these matters in her novels. Her style of writing that contains social theses can be easily recognized in almost every novel she wrote. In her novel Viva La Muerte she narrates the the relation between the characters Günay Rodoplu and Şafak Özden as a means of bringing the issues related to the problems of the world in general and specifically Turkey’s problems into discussion. The character Günay Rodoplu, who tries to set the boundaries between the real and the ideal world, uses many concepts such as “megamachine”, “big lie”, “homo-economicus” and “alienation”. This study examines and evaluates Viva La Muerte in respect to both its technical features and its way of treating the concepts that are mentioned above.
Keywords
Viva La Muerte, necrophilia, biophilia, alienation, megamachine, homo-economicus
