Abstract

From date on which it is began to be used Uzbek Turkish as a separate written language until today, Uzbeks changed the alphabet four times for various reasons. Because of Arabic alphabet does not represent all the sounds in Uzbek Turkish and characteristics of Uzbek Turkish, the transition to the Latin alphabet was accelareted. The Cyrillic alphabet was adopted and has been used for about 55 years as a result of language policies implemented by Russia after the invasion of Türkistan. It was adopted the Latin alphabet with Central Asian Turkic Republics’ implemented national language policies from the early 1990’s. The alphabet problem of Uzbek Turkish which is accepted as a continuation of Chagatai Turkish alphabet, still continues today. In this study, we will try to explain the change of Uzbek Turkish in detail.
