Abstract

In this study, it will be examined the umbilical cord (the deep connection) of the angel image, which is represented in Duino Elegies by Rainer Maria Rilke playing on important role in both German literature and the world on, with the angel figure in Islam by the help of eclectic way blending the intertextual and nontextual search ways. Includes ten elegies and completed in ten years, these poetry series focus on the existence problem of human being adorned with the life, death and love motifs. Rilke commits this problem in the axis of angel image which is extensively dominant especially in the first two elegies and then starts to go background slowly. In one of his letters that is written to illuminate the poems difficult to understand, it says: “The angel of the Elegies has nothing to do with the angel of the Christian heaven (rather with the angel figures of Islam).” It has been done lots of studies about the angel elegy so far but the connection of this angel with Islam has been ex
