Abstract

Even when the publications of the historical development of the Shyrdak felt from the central Asia to the present day have been examined, the information about the Shyrdak felt is not sufficient. The oldest written document on the usage of the Shyrdak felt is seen in the Homer’s Iliad. Due to its wide usage area, felt has always maintained its presence in everyday life. Wet Felt is a very important and valuable art of handcraft. By the Kyrgyz who live a semi-nomadic life, traditional felt making has continued to survive from ancient times to today without losing its properties. As to the technique of Shyrdak which takes an important place in Kyrgyzstan; it shows similarities with the technical and aesthetic aspects of the ancient Pazyryk felt.
