Abstract

Ottoman Empire’s religious court records, with were maintained locally, provide invaluable data regarding the socio-economic, cultural and religious practices of the time periods fort ey were kept my contribution deals with the court records kept in the Famagusta District in Cyprus from 1814 to 1816 which is second part of the court records that were kept between 1813 and 1818. My work aims translate Famagusta’s religious court record into modern Turkish. This stady covers the years between 1220 and 1225 in Hijri yeaer and between 1813 and 1818 in the Gregorian calender.this part of the court records are 50 pages and comprised of 103 court cases. İt is notable that property, real estate sales, inheritance, alimony, homicide and custody related cases dominate this era’s records. Whit this study I envision to contribute to the literature on the court records of Famagusta between 1813 and 1818, particularly thr literature in the field of sociology, law, history andsocial sciences
