Abstract

In the early years of Republican period, law education was only in Istanbul, in the Darülfünun Faculty of Law. This school was not ready for the upcoming reforms -particularly the ones in the field of law- of the new republic. The main thought was that the “famous” mudarrises of the law school of Istanbul would take a long time adapting to the fresh republic and its newly taken steps. The intellectuals and particularly the press evaluated this new period negatively. In such an atmosphere, Ankara Law School took action on the 5th of November, 1925. Ankara Law School was not only the first higher education institution of the Republic, but it was also the first one to use the title of professorship this study, examines the opening of the Ankara Law School and the status of the instructors and students, along with the school’s income and expenses. Besides, the data from Darülfünun Faculty of Law are compared with the ones from Ankara Law School. Some information is given also on the Ankara
