A state, which realized it could no longer keep up with the changing world, is visible in the spirit and will that would activate the creative incentive that it needed so badly of the idealized protagonists of the literature works of the era. Tanzimat poetry contains the traces of the mental fragmentation observed in its representatives, whose intellectual identity went beyond their poetry. One of the reasons of this fragmentation was the poet’s identity problem. The doubts and indecisions the poet experienced about the identity, society and religion (s)he possessed directed the poet to ask questions on the state of affairs in the world.
