Abstract

It is seen that diabetes prevalance is increasing in developed countries like European countries with rapid changes in consumption and dietary habits. Fort this reason in this study it was aimed to examine factors determining diabetes prevalance in OECD countries which have developed economies and includes Turkey. Dependent variable of the model was diabetes prevalance, independent variables are Gini coefficient, existence of a national health technology policy, tobacco consumption and number of hospitals. At the end of the regression analysis it was found that the most effective variable in predicting diabetes prevalance in OECD countries is Gini coefficient (β=0.60, p<0.01). Another variable which makes a significant contribution to the model is tobacco consumption (β=0.28, p<0.05). Explanatory coefficient of the model showed that 0.67 variance of the diabetes prevalence was explained with this model. Results of this study shows that Gini Coefficient is a determinator factor to fight
