Abstract

As in other organizations, employees of educational institutions can be exposed to work alienation. The aim of this study is to contribute to the alienation literature and purpose ethical leadership as a solution against work alienation problem. The research was conducted on academic staff of 8 public universities operating in Black Sea Region. The universe of the research consists of research assistants, teaching assistants and lecturers. Questionnaires were sent to employees by e-mail and 201 questionnaires were taken back as fully completed. The data were analyzed with reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, t test and variance analysis. According to the results, ethical leadership negatively affects work alienation. Likewise, ethical leadership has negative effects on the powerlessness and meaninglessness dimensions of work alienation.
