Abstract

In this study, it has been tried to explain the relationship between feminism and the English feminist theatre. In this respect, first the definition of feminism, its waves and types have been clarified. The feminist movement, which is a boycott that seeks for women rights since the 1960s in most parts of the world, has affected manifold art forms and caused to emerge several organizations. Especially, when we compare the feminist organizations after 1968 in England with other countries, it is obvious that there are more organizations in England. Feminism, which became worldwide in the 1960s, affected the theatre as well. Feminist theatre shows women’s problems on the stage and tries to improve the negative applications towards women. In our study, after referring to the first feminist characteristic plays in theatre history, how feminist theatre appeared in Britain has been commented on with examples.
