Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of teacher education in Turkey on the professional competences. In our study, by evaluating educational topics and teacher competency as one of the important part of teacher training function, and also by relating the problems of the professional status of teachers and the employment with the teacher training; the importance of the cooperation and the coordination of the institutions on the management of teacher implementation is mentioned. Undergraduates tend to imitate the teacher at school rather than the things they learn at school. Teacher candidates are given opportunities to participate in classroom activities, but management activities, educational, social and cultural activities take place at a lower level of participation than expected.
