Regional Development Planning started with the Ottoman Empire in Turkey. Therefore, the history of regional development plans in our country dates back to the time before the Republican Administration. Before the establishment of the State Planning Organization regional development in 1960 plans were made by the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement. In 10 development plans until now; the items related tourism is very important issue in terms of natural and cultural resources in tourism sustainability. The aims of this study is giving proposals to sustainable tourism planning studies on city’s history monuments and examining Şanlıurfa and sustainable tourism and drawing attention to conduct of tourism politics by more protectionist approach.
