Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a Likert type attitude scale to determine the attitude of students towards the school student council. To accomplish this aim, a 73-item trial scale was prepared and applied to 376 students studying in secondary schools in Sisli, Istanbul. The construct validity of the scale was carried out by factor analysis. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, a total of 32 items, 17 positive and 15 negative, collected under 4 factors, which explained 46.874% of the total variance have been involved in the scale. The first factor, consisting of 17 items, was named as “democratic gains”; the second factor, consisting of 7 items, was named as “usefulness”; the third factor, consisting of 5 items, was named as “responsibility”, and the fourth factor, consisting of 3 items was named as “gender bias”.
