Abstract

Masnavi’s interpretations and annotations have been made in different ages since the epoch it was written down owing to the fact that it both includes universal values and it has guided people in various social issues. Rather than the interpretations for Masnavi, Turkish annotations attached to it are classified into the two groups in the form of the annotations added to one part of Masnavi or to the whole of it. One of the annotations made for the entire Masnavi is the Şem’i’s’ Şerh-i Mesnevi which is regarded as the first masnavi annotation in Turkish Literature. Şerh-i Mesnevi, which Şem’i commenced in1587 and finished in 1596 in accordance with the demand of Murad the Third that Mesnevi must be annotated with Turkish Language, amounts to six volumes.
