Abstract

Social studies teachers have a special role in teaching democratic attitudes, skills and values, and subjects such as fundamental rights and freedoms, human rights and constitution to elementary school students after their families. The politics education given to teacher candidates during their undergraduate education is of significance in terms of training elementary school children as effective citizens who understand our democratic system. This study aimed to identify social studies teacher candidates' views on political literacy. Phenomenological design that is one of the qualitative research designs was employed in the study. The participants were selected using convenient sampling that is a purposive sampling method. The participants of the study were 10 4th year teacher candidates at the Social Studies Education Department of Pamukkale University Education Faculty.
