Abstract

Akhlat, the most important witness of Anatolia the Turks settled down, has been carrying the signs of their unique cultures in its lap for thousands of years. Besides the dwellings, mosques, sepulchers, caravanserais, bath-houses, castles having historical and architectural wealth, many cemeteries related with the Turks have come to our days in Akhlat. From the cemeteries point of view Akhlat occupies an exceptional part in whole Middle Ages Islamic world. Besides the small cemeteries seen in different places of Akhlat there are six cemeteries having historical wealth and occupying large fields. Kharaba sheher (Ruined town), Takhti Suleyman (Suleyman`s Throne), Kirklar (Forties), Merkez (Centre), Maydanlig (Square), Gala (Tower) cemetery. The largest and most important cemetery of Akhlat is Meydanlig cemetery. There exist tombstones of very high art wealth in this cemetery.
