Abstract

Ceramics is one of the oldest occupations of mankind. Each culture has developed its own art and techniques in ceramics. What made the biggest contribution to this process without a doubt has been the geography that determined the raw materials. Raw materials have always been the most significant constituent. The fact that workshops have been established nearby the sources of raw materials confirms this argument. When we move forward from the assumption that necessity is the mother of invention, one should not find it odd that each culture has produced things with similarities to each other. Besides these similar products, each society has also created distinctive products that reflected their own culture. Traditional pottery production nowadays is experiencing several problems although it still maintains its existence. Gölbaşı is another pottery production centre struggling to maintain its existence despite many problems. In this study which is completely based on field research,
