STRESS COPING STRATEGIES OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

The research was carried out to find whether there is a significant difference in stress coping strategies used by the high school students in the ninth and twelfth grade in terms of the variables, gender and grade. The relational model was used in the research. 192 students (95 female and 97 male students) who were attending in the ninth and twelfth grade participated in the research in Bayburt in the educational year of 2012-2013. The data was collected with Scale of Coping Strategies Used in Stressful Experiences. An independent samples t-test was used to see whether the high school students’ stress coping strategies show differences in terms of gender and grade. The results demonstrate that female students use imagination strategy more than male students, the students in the twelfth grade use problem solving strategy more than the students in the ninth grade, the students in the ninth grade use seeking social support strategy more than the students in the twelfth grade.
